wrench
Mechanic's turning tool
In North American English, a wrench is a tool that works by establishing a firm grip that allows torque to be applied.
Various modifiers designate the different types (monkey wrench, Allen wrench, socket wrench).
Wrench also designates a forceful and perhaps painful movement; this meaning arises from the original wrench, a verb that means to move, pull, or strain with violent twisting or force.
To wrench something away from someone is to take it from them against their will.
