Edge-protecting adhesive band
Painter's tape is masking tape designed to create clean edges when painting.
It adheres firmly enough to block paint but releases without damaging surfaces or leaving residue.
The most common variety is blue, making it easy to see against walls: I ran painter's tape along the trim before starting on the ceiling.
