generic

Lacking brand name

Generic describes something that belongs to or characterizes a whole class or group rather than a specific member.

A generic drug is one sold without a brand name, typically after a patent expires, and containing the same active ingredients as the original: The pharmacist offered me the generic version to save money.

Generic can also suggest something lacking distinctive qualities or individuality—plain, unremarkable, or mass-produced: The hotel room had that generic corporate feel.

In grammar and computing, generic refers to forms or types that apply broadly rather than specifically.
