rubber cement

Flexible bonding agent

Rubber cement is an adhesive made from elastic polymers dissolved in a solvent.

It forms a flexible, non-permanent bond—papers glued with rubber cement can often be peeled apart and repositioned.

The solvent evaporates as it dries, leaving a rubbery residue.

Once common in graphic design and paste-up work, it has been largely replaced by other adhesives: The smell of rubber cement takes me back to art class.
