priming
Readying before action
Priming is preparation that readies something for use or action.
You prime a pump by filling it with fluid so it can begin drawing more.
You prime a surface before painting so the topcoat adheres properly.
You prime a person by giving them information beforehand: She primed him on what to expect at the interview.
In psychology, priming refers to how exposure to one stimulus influences response to a later one—seeing the word "yellow" makes you faster to recognize "banana."
