number

Count or tally

The word number is used for different concepts and ideas that all involve the symbols that we use to represent quantity: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and the rest.

Any one of these symbols, alone or in combination with others, is called a number and the abstract system in which these symbols exist is also sometimes called number.

In grammar, number refers the quantity of things being talked about.

Many languages distinguish between singular (one thing) and plural numbers.

Some languages also have a dual number to represent two things.
