piece
Part of something
Piece is a handy noun to denote any of the parts of component things (piece of an engine) or of things that are typically divided (two pieces of cake).
Single examples of general nouns denoting a class of things are called pieces (piece of furniture).
Products of creative work (writing, composition, painting) are often called pieces.
To piece something out is to divide it into parts, usually equal ones.
