motorsailer

Sail-engine boat

A motorsailer is a boat designed to operate well under both sail and engine power, combining features of a sailboat and a motorboat.

Unlike pure sailboats that carry engines only as auxiliary power, motorsailers have larger engines and are built to cruise efficiently either way: We took the motorsailer up the coast, motoring when the wind died.
