Europa

Icy Jovian moon

Europa is one of Jupiter's four largest moons, discovered by Galileo in 1610.

Its icy surface conceals what scientists believe is a vast subsurface ocean, making it a prime candidate in the search for extraterrestrial life.

Europa also appears in Greek mythology as a Phoenician princess abducted by Zeus in the form of a bull—the figure for whom the continent Europe is named.
