Planetary brightness measure
Albedo is the proportion of light or radiation reflected by a surface.
Fresh snow has high albedo, reflecting most sunlight; asphalt has low albedo, absorbing most of it.
The concept matters in climate science, where melting ice reduces Earth's albedo, causing more warming.
The albedo of the moon's surface is surprisingly low.
