microns

Microscopic length units

Microns is the plural of micron, a unit of length equal to one millionth of a meter.

The term appears in contexts requiring precise measurement of very small things—the diameter of a human hair (about 70 microns), the size of airborne particles, or the thickness of industrial coatings.

In technical writing, micrometer is preferred, but microns remains common in everyday scientific and manufacturing contexts.
