micronation
Self-declared tiny state
A micronation is a self-declared independent state that lacks recognition from established governments and international bodies.
These entities typically claim tiny territories—a backyard, an abandoned platform, a small island—and adopt the trappings of nationhood: flags, constitutions, currency, titles.
Most are hobbyist projects, political protests, or artistic experiments rather than serious bids for sovereignty: He founded a micronation in his apartment and declared himself king.
