legislative assembly
Elected lawmaking chamber
A legislative assembly is a governing body with the power to make, amend, or repeal laws.
The term often refers specifically to the lower house of a bicameral legislature, as in some Canadian provinces and Australian states: The legislative assembly passed the budget bill.
More broadly, any formally constituted group of lawmakers may be called a legislative assembly.
