roll call
Checking who's here
A roll call is the reading aloud of a list of names to determine who is present: The teacher took roll call at the start of class.
The term extends to any systematic check of attendance or participation.
In legislative bodies, a roll call vote records each member's individual vote rather than a collective voice vote: The bill passed on a roll call vote of 52 to 48.
