handover
Passing the baton
A handover is the act of transferring something from one party to another—control, responsibility, possession, or authority.
The term appears frequently in institutional contexts: the handover of Hong Kong to China, a smooth handover between shifts, the handover of classified documents.
In business, handover often describes transitioning duties when someone leaves a role: She spent her last week managing the handover to her replacement.
