holdover

Vestige from before

A holdover is something that remains from an earlier time—a person, practice, or thing that persists beyond its original context.

A political appointee who stays after an administration changes is a holdover; so is an outdated policy still in effect: The dress code is a holdover from the 1950s.

In real estate, a holdover tenant remains after a lease expires.
