Macau

China's casino territory

Macau is a special administrative region on China's southern coast, west of Hong Kong.

Like Hong Kong, it operates under the "one country, two systems" principle following its 1999 handover from Portugal, which had administered the territory for over four centuries.

Macau is famous for its casino industry, which generates more gambling revenue than Las Vegas, and for its distinctive blend of Portuguese and Chinese architectural and culinary traditions.
