perpetuation
Making something last
Perpetuation is the act of making something continue indefinitely or preserving it from ending.
It often carries negative connotations when applied to harmful conditions: the perpetuation of inequality, the perpetuation of stereotypes.
But it can be neutral or positive: the perpetuation of cultural traditions, the perpetuation of the species.
The word implies active maintenance rather than passive continuation—something or someone keeps the thing going.
