inaugural address
First official remarks
An inaugural address is the formal speech given by a newly elected leader upon taking office, most commonly by a U.S. president at the swearing-in ceremony.
These speeches traditionally outline the incoming administration's vision and call for national unity: Kennedy's inaugural address urged Americans to "ask not what your country can do for you." The phrase is sometimes shortened to simply the inaugural.
