liability

Debt or disadvantage

A liability is something you're responsible for or obligated to pay—debts, damages, legal obligations.

In business and law, liabilities are what an entity owes: The company's liabilities exceeded its assets.

More casually, a liability is a person or thing that creates disadvantage or risk: His temper is a liability.

The opposite of an asset in both senses.
