takeover
Seizing the reins
A takeover is the act of assuming control over something, especially a company or organization.
In business, a takeover occurs when one company acquires another, sometimes against the target's wishes (a hostile takeover).
The term extends to any seizure of control: a military takeover, a government takeover of the banks.
As a verb phrase, to take over means to assume control or responsibility: She took over as CEO last month.
