genders

Masculine, feminine, others

Genders are the categories—traditionally male and female—into which people are sorted based on biological, social, or personal identity.

Gender once referred primarily to grammatical classes (masculine, feminine, neuter), but now dominates discussions of human identity: What gender is your baby?

Contemporary usage increasingly distinguishes gender (social/psychological) from sex (biological), and recognizes identities beyond the binary: The form asks for your gender with options including nonbinary.

To gender something is to assign it masculine or feminine associations.
