socialization

Learning group norms

Socialization is the process of learning to function in society—absorbing its norms, values, and behaviors.

Children undergo socialization through family, school, and peers.

The term extends to any adaptation to group expectations: workplace socialization, socialization into academic culture.

In a simpler sense, socialization is just interacting with others: The puppy needs more socialization.

To socialize is to engage in this process or simply to spend time with people.
