genderqueer
Outside male/female categories
Genderqueer describes a gender identity that falls outside the conventional binary of male and female.
Someone who is genderqueer may identify as neither, both, or a fluid combination.
The term emerged from queer communities as both an identity label and a broader rejection of rigid gender categories: My friend identifies as genderqueer and uses they/them pronouns.
