A gender reveal is an event or moment when expecting parents announce the sex of their unborn child, typically through some theatrical flourish—cutting a cake to show pink or blue inside, popping a balloon filled with colored confetti, or increasingly elaborate stunts.
The term is recent, dating from the 2010s social media era.
Despite the name, what's revealed is biological sex, not gender identity.
