e-brake

Hill-hold mechanism

An e-brake is the emergency brake or parking brake in a vehicle—a secondary braking system independent of the main hydraulic brakes.

Drivers engage it when parked to prevent rolling, or in emergencies if primary brakes fail.

In performance driving, pulling the e-brake initiates controlled skids: He yanked the e-brake to drift around the corner.
