rollback

Return to earlier

A rollback is a return to a previous state, reversing changes that were made.

In computing, a rollback undoes a failed transaction or restores a system to an earlier version: We had to rollback the database after the update crashed.

In policy, it means reversing regulations or price increases: a rollback of environmental protections.

The verb is usually two words: roll back the changes.
