gearshift

Manual driver's lever

A gearshift is the lever or mechanism used to change gears in a vehicle, typically located on the floor console or steering column.

Manual transmissions require the driver to operate the gearshift along with a clutch pedal; automatic transmissions shift themselves but still use a gearshift to select drive, reverse, park, and neutral.

She moved the gearshift into reverse.
