e-brakes

Parked car security

E-brakes is the plural of e-brake, short for emergency brake—the secondary braking system in a vehicle, typically a hand lever or foot pedal that mechanically locks the rear wheels.

Despite the name, it's used more often for parking than emergencies: Set the e-brakes before you get out.

Also called parking brake or handbrake.
