maritime law
Ocean legal framework
Maritime law is the body of legal rules governing navigation, shipping, and commerce on the seas and other navigable waters.
Also called admiralty law, it covers matters such as cargo disputes, collisions, salvage rights, marine insurance, and the rights of sailors.
Maritime law operates somewhat independently of land-based legal systems, with specialized courts handling disputes.
The contract specified that maritime law would govern any claims arising from the shipment.
