retire
Leave the workforce
When you retire, you stop working at a regular job, either because you have reached a prescribed age or you are ill.
You can also retire (that is, stop taking part) from an activity, such as arguing, playing professional tennis, or a board position.
When you retire a piece of equipment, you stop using it after a considerable period of service.
In cricket and baseball, you retire the batsman or batter when you put him out: The pitcher retired three consecutive batters in the third inning.
