fight
Engage in combat
Fight is physical combat or violent confrontation between people, animals, or forces: a bar fight, a fight to the death.
The word extends to any vigorous struggle or contest: a legal fight, a fight against disease, a fight for survival.
To fight is to engage in such conflict or to oppose something forcefully.
A fight can also be willingness to resist: She still has some fight left in her.
Fighting words are provocations.
To pick a fight is to initiate conflict deliberately.
