vindicate

Prove someone right

To vindicate is to clear someone of blame or suspicion, or to prove that something was right or justified.

A verdict may vindicate an accused person; later events may vindicate an unpopular decision: History vindicated her warnings about the financial crisis.

Vindication carries a sense of triumph—not just being proven correct, but being proven correct after doubt or opposition.
