fleur-de-lis
Heraldic lily symbol
A fleur-de-lis is a stylized lily with three petals, the central one upright and the outer two curving outward.
The design has been a heraldic symbol for centuries, most famously associated with French royalty and the city of New Orleans.
It appears on flags, coats of arms, and decorative objects: The Quebec flag features a fleur-de-lis.
Also spelled fleur-de-lys.
Plural: fleurs-de-lis.
