lowercase
Small letter form
Lowercase refers to the smaller form of letters in alphabets that distinguish between two cases: *a, b, c* rather than *A, B, C*.
The term comes from the physical arrangement of movable type, where smaller letters were stored in the lower of two cases.
As a verb, to lowercase is to convert to this form: The editor lowercased all the headings.
Also spelled lower-case or lower case.
