stud book
Pedigree documentation volume
A stud book is an official registry recording the pedigree and breeding history of purebred animals, especially horses.
Maintained by breed associations, stud books establish which animals qualify as purebred and track bloodlines across generations: Her mare is registered in the American Quarter Horse stud book.
The term extends to cattle, dogs, and other breeds where lineage matters.
