bivy

Minimal camping cover

A bivy (also bivvy or bivouac) is a minimalist overnight shelter used by climbers, hikers, and soldiers—typically a waterproof sack that fits over a sleeping bag, or a small lightweight tent.

To bivy is to spend the night in such improvised conditions: We bivied on a ledge halfway up the face.

The term suggests roughing it without full camping gear.
