thru-hiking

Completing entire trails

Thru-hiking is hiking an entire long-distance trail end to end in a single continuous journey, typically taking weeks or months.

The term comes from hiking *through* a trail rather than in sections: She's thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail this summer.

A thru-hiker completes the whole route in one go, as opposed to section hiking over multiple trips.
