acclimatization
Gradual habitat adjustment
Acclimatization is the process of adjusting to new conditions, especially climate or altitude.
Mountaineers spend days at base camp for acclimatization before attempting a summit.
The term applies broadly to any gradual adaptation: acclimatization to a new job, acclimatization to city life.
Also spelled acclimatisation in British English.
