Making less prominent
Backgrounding is the practice of feeding cattle on pasture or forage to promote growth before they move to a feedlot for finishing.
The term also applies to journalism, where backgrounding means providing reporters with context or information not for direct quotation: The press secretary spent an hour backgrounding journalists on the treaty.
In computing, backgrounding refers to running a process while the user works on other tasks.
