Backgrounded describes something moved out of primary focus or attention.
In computing, a backgrounded process runs without occupying the active terminal: I backgrounded the download so I could keep working.
More generally, backgrounded means deprioritized or made secondary: Her concerns were backgrounded in favor of more urgent matters.
The word implies deliberate demotion rather than simple neglect.
