Quakers

Pacifist Christian sect

Quakers are members of the Religious Society of Friends, a Christian denomination founded in 17th-century England.

Quakers traditionally reject formal clergy, creeds, and rituals, instead emphasizing direct experience of God and silent worship.

They are historically associated with pacifism, social justice, and plain living: The Quakers were early opponents of slavery.

The name, originally mocking, reportedly came from their founder's admonition to "tremble at the word of the Lord."
