education
Formal knowledge acquisition
In its most common meaning, education is the action or process of instructing learners in the knowledge, skills, or information that they need.
Education encompasses formal learning experiences for people from childhood to adulthood; the various stages are designated with compound terms such as primary education, secondary education, and higher education.
When someone talks about their education, they may mean the entire process or the last part of it.
But education can be used outside of a formal instructional setting.
If you say that an experience was an education, you mean that you learned something important.
