suffrage movement
Ballot rights crusade
The suffrage movement was the organized campaign to win voting rights for women.
Beginning in earnest in the mid-19th century, it culminated in constitutional amendments and legislation granting women the vote—in the United States with the 19th Amendment in 1920, in Britain with acts in 1918 and 1928.
Her grandmother had marched in the suffrage movement.
