Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S.
Grant was the eighteenth president of the United States and commanding general of Union forces during the Civil War.
His acceptance of Robert E.
Lee's surrender at Appomattox in 1865 effectively ended the war.
Grant's name sometimes appears in expressions about military persistence or unconditional terms: We need a Grant, not a McClellan.
