James A. Garfield
Guiteau's presidential victim
James A.
Garfield was the twentieth president of the United States, serving only four months in 1881 before being shot by a disgruntled office-seeker.
He died from his wounds eleven weeks later, making his presidency one of the shortest in American history.
Garfield remains notable as the last president born in a log cabin.
