Franklin D. Roosevelt
Franklin D.
Roosevelt, often abbreviated FDR, was the 32nd president of the United States, serving an unprecedented four terms from 1933 until his death in 1945.
He led the nation through the Great Depression, implementing the New Deal programs that fundamentally expanded the federal government's role in economic affairs, and through most of World War II.
His fireside chats pioneered direct presidential communication with citizens via radio.
Roosevelt remains one of the most consequential figures in American political history.
