truce flag
White cloth waved
A truce flag is a white flag displayed to signal a temporary halt to fighting, typically to negotiate, exchange prisoners, or retrieve the wounded.
International law protects those carrying it from attack: The soldier approached with a truce flag to propose terms.
The term is more formal than simply "white flag."
