Turkiye

Bosphorus-spanning country

Turkiye is the official English name for the country formerly called Turkey, adopted in 2022 at the Turkish government's request.

The change reflects the Turkish-language spelling and avoids associations with the bird.

Turkiye joined NATO in 1952.

The older English name Turkey remains common in informal usage.
