Thrace

Spartacus's homeland region

Thrace is a historical region in southeastern Europe, now divided among Greece, Turkey, and Bulgaria.

In ancient times it was home to warlike tribes the Greeks considered barbaric.

The Thracians were renowned horsemen and warriors—Spartacus was Thracian.

The region appears throughout Greek mythology and classical literature: the wild hills of Thrace.
